Translation of Public Signs and its Effects on City Image Construction-Based on the Survey of Cangzhou City

城市公示语的英译的好坏直接关系到城市形象能否成功地对外传播,影响城市文化软实力的有效建构。沧州市城区公示语英译现状令人忧虑,存在语法、语用、语气等方面的错误。原因有政府管理、译者、高校英语教学等方面。从翻译规范、译者能力角度提出改进策略。

Translation of urban public signs exerts deep influence on the international communication and construc-tion of the image of a city .According to the survey of public signs in Cangzhou ,there exist a variety of linguistic mistakes and pragmatic failures in translation of public signs in Cangzhou ,which is quite worrisome .This paper argues that the possible causes of those problems are lack of supervision and management of government ,carelessness and low linguistic competence of translators and less attention to public signs translation from the college English teaching .And it puts for-ward corresponding solutions and suggestions from the perspective of translation norms and linguistic competence of trans-lators .
