摘要
《红字》是19世纪美国伟大的小说家纳撒尼尔·霍桑的经典之作。小说以海丝特·白兰和阿瑟·丁梅斯代尔之间的爱情故事为主线,描写了两人私通后的心理活动和自我救赎之路。从文学伦理学批评的角度入手,运用自由意志、理性意志、伦理身份、伦理困境、伦理选择等理论,重新审视小说主人公海丝特痛苦挣扎的内心,分析海丝特的精神世界和伦理选择,并追寻作家霍桑的伦理道德观。
The Scarlet Letter is the masterpiece of Nathaniel Hawthorne, an outstanding American novelist of the 19＇h century. Through the love story between Hester Prynne and Arfhur Dimmesdale, the novel de- scribes the two persons＇ psychological activities and the roads of self-atonement after committing adultery. From the perspective of ethical literary criticism, this thesis employs the terms of natural will, rational will, ethical identity, ethical confusion and ethical choice to interpret the protagonist nester＇s inner conflicts, analyze Hester＇s spiritual world and ethical choices＇, and seek for Nathaniel Hawthorne＇s ethical conception.
