Objective To investigate the effects of culture media on SELDI-TOF MS fingerprints of bacterial proteins. Methods The protein fingerprints of three reference strains derived from different culture media were analyzed to explore the effects of the culture media on the spectra. Results The number of protein peaks of the Reference strains ATCC 12600,ATCC 25922 and ATCC 27853 stably expressed on protein spectra was 11,11 and 9 respectively in all culture media; the strains also expressed a small amount of their unique protein peaks. Conclusion Comparison of the protein fingerprints of the same strain cultured with different media shows that its characteristic protein peaks express stably in spite of different culture media.
