Xiong Qinglai’s Ideas in University Running

熊庆来 1937年～ 194 9年任云南大学校长。其间 ,他励精图治 ,将这所原本不知名的边疆省立大学办成为全国知名大学 ,被英国《简明不列颠百科全书》 (194 7年 )列为中国 15所世界著名大学之一。熊庆来的办学思想主要体现在突出特点、提高学校地位、提高学生素质、加强科学研究、建立高效机制以及倡导学术精神等方面。

Xiong Qinglai held the presidency of Yunnan University during 1937-1949. He made great efforts to turn Yunnan University into a famous one at home and abroad. As a result, Yunnan University was listed among the 15 Chinese universities of world renown in Concise Encyclopaedia Britannica(the 1947 edition). Xiong put a high premium on making full use of one’s own advantages, improwing the status of the university, enhancing the quality of the students, promoting scientific research, establishing a high efficiency system, and advocating intellectual spirit. His practices merit great attention in the current education reform.
