The general principles applied to any sulphuric acid plant are summarized, including the upgrade or replacement of the acid plant equipment to reduce pressure drop, enhancement of sulphur dioxide intensity, fan upgrade, methods for de-bottlenecking the issues of steam generation system, and the strategies for emission reduction. For metallurgic acid plants, special discussions focus on the improvement of gas purification, increase of the suction pressure of the fans, control of the air dilution in acid plant environment, and the treatment of the process condition changes. For sulphuric acid plants, handling of sulphur and sulphur burning are reviewed in particular.
