广东近代的科学技术具有明显的功利主义色彩,其中主要表现在重视实用技术的发展而忽略基础科学的深层研究,以及广东近代知识分子浓厚的科技兴国和工业立国思想。这一现象的形成与广东地区的文化传统有着密不可分的联系,解决这一问题的关键在于培植理性和求真的科学精神。

Modem science and technology of Guangdong was endowed with obvious utilitari/mism, which is mainly manifested in emphasis on practical techniques and ignoranc of the basic science, as well as the strong ideological on science and technology salvation in intellectuals＇mind. Its formation has great links with the Guangdong traditional culture.The paper argues that fostering the scientific spirit of reason and truth-seeking is the key to address the issue.
