Analyse on the Function of Hongshan Culture Jade Bi

玉璧是红山文化玉器的重要组成部分,有单孔的玉璧,有双孔的双联璧和三孔的三联璧。从其形制特点看,红山时期的玉璧之功能,一是作为神职人员神服神帽上的装饰和身上所戴配饰使用,二是红山先民自然崇拜的象征,三是红山先民生殖崇拜的象征。玉璧是红山文化时期社会政治、经济、文化发展的产物,为我们认识、了解红山文化的宗教信仰及玉文化的内涵提供了重要资料。

Bi is an important part of the Hongshan Culture jade. According to the shape, it can be divided into three types：single-hole bi, duplex bi with double holes and triple bi with three holes. Look from its shape characteristics, Hongshan jade has the following functions：firstly as wearing accessories of clergy and decorative use of the clergy＇s clothing.secondly bi is the symbol of the Hongshan ancestors worship of nature, thirdly bi is the symbol of the Hongshan ancestors worship of reproduction. Bi is the product of the development of social politics, economy, and culture during the period of Hongshan Culture. It provides important data for understanding Hongshan Culture jade and religious belief.
