西方小说汉译参照系中的当代中国小说英译

Understanding translation of Chinese novels into English in the light of translation of Western novels into Chinese

西方小说汉译经历了发轫期、探索期、发展期和成熟期,各个时期表现出鲜明的阶段性特征。中国小说英译虽有百余年历史,但从社会影响和翻译规模来判断尚处于探索期之后的发展期。本文以西方小说汉译为参照,认为当代中国小说英译在翻译选材和翻译方法方面表现出来的特征虽尚未达到"译出方"的期望,但从发展阶段来说具有合理性。学界要客观看待目前中国小说英译中存在的问题,在尊重规律的前提下采取积极措施,促成中国小说英译成熟期的早日到来。

The translation of Western novels into Chinese has experienced its initial period,experimenting period,developing period and mature period, displaying distinctive features at each period. The translation of Chinese novels into English,in spite of a history of more than one hundred years,is still at its early period of developing. In the frame of reference of translation of Western novels into Chinese, it is suggested that,in the case of translation of Chinese novels into English,the works selected for translation and the prevailing translation methods are reasonable in this specific period, even though they cannot meet the expectations of the source culture. We should put the existing problems thereof in perspective and take positive measures to usher in its mature period.
