Design subject plays an important role in economic and culture construction in the future society. Its development needs to represent scientific thinking of building the subject, and to fulfill tasks on training, research, and social service. In deepening education reform, environmental de- sign speciality should associate with the demand of local economy and social development to promote the innovation of training mode, curriculum system, and teaching method. We should further under- stand the principles of environmental design education, search for social demand of professional knowledge structure, change the fact of emphasizing image rather than logic thinking, explore the advantage and features of engineering institute setting, transform the training target from art-oriented to engineering-oriented, establish culture of training architecture-based engineering-oriented profes- sional by taking advantage of resources that the engineering institute possesses, and build the envi- ronmental design speciality featured with engineering and technology.
