This empirical study is designed to investigate the effects of different word exposure frequencies and different glossing languages on English majors' incidental vocabulary acquisition. The result shows that the main effect of word exposure frequency is significant, while the main effect of glossing languages is not significant. Therefore, when choosing English reading materials, the word exposure frequency and glossing languages should be considered in order to improve students' word retention.
