China’s Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century directly affects Asia’s future prosperity.Because the strategic goals of mutual consultation,joint construction and shared results with all the coastal countries concerned will take unswerving cooperative effort,completion of the Maritime Silk Road will profoundly impact international relations.While moving ahead,China must guard against over-extension.
China＇s One Belt and One Road strategy has caught the attention of the world. The Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century, a part of thisstrategy, involves numerous countries and regions as well as complicated sea/land connections, and its strong policy relevance makes it worthy of in-depth study by academia. President Xi Jinping announced in his October 3, 2013, speech to Indonesia＇s Parliament （＂Constructing Jointly the China-ASEAN Community of Common Destiny＂） that ＂China is more than willing to build the Maritime Silk Road of the 21 st Century together with the ASEAN countries.＂
