With the socio - economic development of China, especially the evolution of electronic media, the number of "villager docu- mentaries" has increased rapidly these years. Produced by non - professional individuals or institutions, villager documentaries have voiced the villagers' views and made a breakthrough in the institutional pattern of discourse, which has some value of visual anthropolo- gy. This paper focuses on the documentaries on Tibetan villagers made since 2000, arguing that the thematic presentation demonstrates the holistic culture of the Tibetans while the villagers' involvement in the audio - visual media through their own choices reaches the core objectives of anthropological films.
