Counterfactual Conditional Sentences and Laws of Nature

通过研究反事实条件句和自然律之间的关系,我们看到无论在认识论方面还是在本体论方面把自然律还原为反事实条件句都是行不通的。自然律在判别反事实条件句真假方面起着重要作用,但由于以往对自然律本质的理解存在着缺陷,所以还是很难对此论断给出一个满意的答案。这给予人们诸多启示:谨慎对待把自然律还原为其他理论的观点;反事实条件句和自然律之间的关系会变得越来越密切;需诉诸科学实践理解自然律;避免物理学的沙文主义。

In this paper, the author makes a study of the relationship between counterfactual conditional sentences and laws of nature, and asserts that in terms of the epistemology and ontology, reduction of the laws of nature to the counterfactual conditional sentences is unworkable. The laws of nature play an important role in judging the real valuation of the counterfactual conditional sentences, but because of unsatisfying to understand the essence of laws of nature, so it is still difficult to give a satisfactory answer. These accounts give people a lot of inspirations： caution with reduction of the laws of nature to other theories; the relationship between counterfactual conditional sentences and laws of nature will become more and more closely; re-sorting to scientific practice to understand laws of nature; avoiding chauvinism about physics.
