Narrative Functions of Literary Sketch in Miss Brill

凯瑟琳·曼斯菲尔德的《布里尔小姐》是一篇优秀的现代主义代表作。在故事中,曼斯菲尔德表现出精湛的叙述艺术,为读者提供多重阅读视角。曼斯菲尔德刻意用文字意象在作品中创造出一系列文字素描画,是对叙述艺术的创新。本文将从3个方面来探索文学素描在作品中的叙述功能:(1)文学作为素描;(2)文学素描与意识流的揭露;(3)文学素描对人物生存空间的建构。本研究将为探索曼斯菲尔德小说提供新的参考。

Katherine Mansfield＇s Miss Brill is an excellent work of modernism. In the story, Mansfield demonstrates her exquisite artistry and provides for the reader many perspectives of reading. Mansfield uses, in particular, the word imagery in creating a series of sketches. In this paper, the narrative functions of literary sketch will be explored from the following three perspectives：first, literary sketch as a narrative technique; second, literary sketch and the presentation of the stream of consciousness; third, literary sketch and the construction of the existence space of the title character. This study will provide new reference for the exploration of Mansfield＇s works.
