Zhang Jian and The Development of Local Tourism

民国时期,张謇全力营造南通地方社会环境,大力开发、保护和修复各种旅游资源,对旅游风景区及旅游服务相关设施进行规划建设,多方位涉足地方旅游事业,推动南通及周边地区旅游事业的现代化。这既是其对近代旅游理性认识的现实反映,也是其爱国爱乡、发展公益的思想和人格追求的具体表现。

During the period of the Republic of China,Zhang Jian made efforts to create local social environment of Nantong. He developed,protected and repaired all kinds of tourist resources,planning and constructing tourist scenic areas,building relevant facilities for tourist services. In this way he involved himself in the tourist industry,promoting the modernization of tourist industry in his life. His involvement in tourism development reflected his rational understanding of modern tourism,his patriotic love for his country and his hometown,his enthusiasm for the public interests and also his pursuit for an ideal personality.
