The Empirical Research of Spatial Boundedness and Unboundedness Semantic-Syntactic Interface in English and Chinese Within the Frame of Motion Event: Taking “Walk Through”as an Example

摘要本文采用英汉平行语料,以"walk through"短语为例,在运动事件框架下,采用实证方法,对英汉空间界态的句法—语义接口进行了对比研究。主要研究发现包括:在运动事件中,英汉两种语言的句法表达式存在有界化语义倾向。其中,在动词短语中有界化特征较为明显,而名词结构主要表达了无界化概念。运动事件的句法和语义体现了双向性的选择限制关系。在特定句法因素的影响下,界态语义能够产生由此及彼的转化。 This paper, taking ＂walk through＂ as an example, adopts parallel texts of English and Chinese, and examins em- pirically the semantic-syntactic interface of spatial boundedness and unboundedness in English and Chinese. Our study has yielded the following findings within the frame of motion event. The phenomenon of bounded semantics is more commonly ob- served in the syntactic expressions of both languages. More bounded expressions are found in verb phrases, while noun struc- tures are mainly unbounded. There exists reciprocal restriction between the semantic and syntactic interface. Under certain syntactic circumstances, the unboundedness can be converted into boundedness, and vice versa.
