The "spatial turn" of the Western cultural idea paradigm since the 19th century helps to cleatc literary space her- meneutics. Michel Butor, the French New Novel writer, based his magnum opus Passing Time on a city called Bleston. While referring to the labyrinth in Greek mythology, he depicted it as.a space filled with confusion and adventure. While referring to the story of Cain killing Abel in the Bible, he depicted it as a space filled with blood and fire. The narrative space reveals Bu- tor's historical consciousness, literary imagery and aesthetic sense.
