英文电影片名翻译中的归化和异化

A Probe into Translation of English Movie Titles from the Prospective of Domestication and Foreignization

电影是文化交流传播的重要媒介,片名是电影的浓缩与灵魂。文章从中英文电影片名的特点入手,以Venuti的归化和异化翻译策略为理论支撑,通过实例分析探讨了这两种翻译策略在英文电影片名翻译中的运用,指出这两种翻译策略是相辅相成、对立统一的关系。因此在进行英文电影片名翻译时译者应根据实际情况,合理灵活地运用这两种策略。

Movies are regarded as the bridge of intercultural communication. Movie titles play a critical role in conveying information of movies and promoting cultural exchanges. After summarizing the characteristics of Chinese movie titles and English ones, taking domesti-cation and foreignization proposed by Venuti as the theoretical framework, the present essay illustrates the practical application of these two strategies in the translation of English movie titles, and comes to the conclusion that domestication and foreignization are a dialectical unity, therefore a translator is required to flexibly adopt different translation strategies.
