There was an unrecognized character Dai(戴) of Dai Zai Wangshi(戴在王室) which was in the Inscription on Zengji Pot, and which led to a misunderstanding about this sentence. According to newly published data of Pre-Qin Chinese characters, this paper recognizes the charaterDai, and points out that the meaning of this sentence is the bronze-maker' s wishes. According to this understanding, this paper claims that the characterDai records the wordDai(戴)or Yi(翼), and the meaning of this sentence is that the bronze-maker hoped that his son and grandson could be protected by the clan of the King forever.
