摘要 一部好的译作要能成功再现原作中的人物个性。罗慕士的Three Kingdoms是公认的《三国演义》佳译。其成功的重要方面是译者能准确地解读原著,把握字里行间所透露出的微妙信息,充分发挥其英语母语游刃有余的驾驭能力,在遣词造句方面精雕细琢,运用灵活的修辞手法,加上娴熟的翻译策略与技巧,很好地再现了原著人物的个性,译出了他们的口吻与神态。 A good piece of translation should be one that reproduces the individualities of the characters. Moss Roberts' Three Kingdoms is universally recognized as an excellent version of the Chinese classical novel. Its success lies in that the translator had a good understanding of the source text as well as what is expressed between the lines on the one hand, and as a native speaker, his expertise in the use of the English language and rhetorical devices, along with his skilled employment of translation strategies, enabled him to reproduce the tone and mien of the characters in the novel on the other.
