王安忆《长恨歌》英译本的优势和不足——兼论文化移植和信息补偿的重要性

Merits and Demerits of The Song of Everlasting Sorrow:A Novel of Shanghai——From the Perspective of Culture Transplantation and Culture Default Information Supplement

由白睿文、陈毓贤翻译的王安忆的《长恨歌》出版以后,受到了西方主流媒体的广泛关注,在英语世界屡屡获奖。这些认可充分证明了译本的质量,两位译者成功地将《长恨歌》引介给了英语世界的读者。然而,由于中西方文化固有的巨大差异,译者在处理文化移植和文化缺省信息补偿方面仍略有瑕疵。文章从深度翻译理论视角出发,探讨《长恨歌》英译本中文化移植和信息补偿的优势和不足,阐明翻译应当将文本置于具有丰富内涵的文化和语言语境中,才能让因文化差异而缺席的意义重新在场,才能让译文读者完整地了解甚至欣赏原文的思想内容及其文体风格,从而实现有效的跨文化交流。

Since The Song of Everlasting Sorrow：A N ovel of Shanghai,the translation of Wang Anyi＇s masterpiece work,published in 2008,it has received lots of applause and discussions from Western mass media and readers. Those rewards adequately prove that it has been successfully introduced to and received by English readers. However,due to huge cultural differences between Chinese and western culture,this translation still leaves some minor points to be desired concerning culture transplantation and the supplement of culture default information. In this paper,thick translation strategy will be used to examine culture transplantation and the supplement of culture default. Both merits and demerits will be analyzed so as to point out that only by locating the text in a rich cultural and linguistic context and by adding necessary cultural information,can the culture transplantation and culture default information supplement be fully achieved.
