The essay mainly explores the development history of shikumen dwellings, and explains the shikumen era conception, characteristics of regional culture and folk customs. It focuses on interpreting the art characteristics of shikumen, aesthetic conception and the construction decoration. It also studies shikumen architecture on the technique of using the new regionalism design and its en- lightenment on modern architecture and interior design to prospect shikumen buildings＇ influence on the contemporary interior design.
