摘要
基于美国当代英语语料库在线语料库,从语用学角度考察体育英语新闻中的模糊限制语的功能。采用Prince的分类法,把模糊限制语分为变动型模糊限制语和缓和型模糊限制语。前者据语境改变语义内容的真值程度,使语义表达更加模糊或者更加精确,部分变动型模糊语还能起到情感渲染的作用,引起读者共鸣,达到恰当的交际目的;后者可以使语气更为缓和,态度更委婉礼貌,增加体育英语新闻话语的客观性和可信度。
Based on COCA online corpus,this paper investigates the pragmatic function of hedges in English sports news. Adopting the taxonomy from Prince,hedges can be classified into the variable fuzzy hedges and the moderate fuzzy hedges. The former can change the truth value of the discourse content according to context so as to make the semantic meaning more vague or more concise and some variable fuzzy hedges can reach the communica-tive goal by rendering the emotions of readers;while the latter can make the tone of voice more moderate,the ex-pression of attitude more polite and increase the subjectivity and credibility of the English sports news.
