自然地理环境是文化生成与发展的物质基础。南海独特的海洋地理结构和海流气象条件,必然会生成独具一格的南海文化。中国人在最早发现、开发、利用和经营南海的同时,创造并发展了灿烂的中国南海文化。作为海上丝绸之路的必经之路,南海自然成为中国文化与东南亚文化、印度文化、两河文化和欧洲文化交流、交汇和融合的主要通道。海南在南海的政治、经济和文化中心的地位,使之成为人类征服、经营和开发南海的重镇。南海传统文化是中国人与南海的互动关系的体现。南海文化内涵丰富,形态多样,是物质文化、制度文化和精神文化的集合体。

Natural Environment is the material foundation of cultural formation and development. The unique marine geographical structure and current weather conditions of the South China Sea inevitably formed its unique culture. Chinese people, in their earliest days of discovering, developing, utilizing and operating the South China Sea, also created and developed ＇a bright culture there. As the only way to Maritime Silk Road, the South China Sea has naturally become the main channel to exchange and merge Chinese culture with the cultures of Southeast Asia, India, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and Europe. As the political, economic and cultural center of the South China Sea, Hainan Island has become the center of conquest, operation and development. The South China Sea culture is a manifestation of interaction between Chinese people and the South China Sea. With rich connotation and diverse forms, the culture of South China Sea is the aggregation of material, institu- tional and spiritual cultures.
