摘要
萨克雷笔下的《名利场》是一部经典的讽刺小说,通过大量运用各种修辞手法,冷嘲热讽,揭露了19世纪英国各阶层势力虚荣、腐败不堪的丑恶现象。本文从三个案例着手,通过分析原作的作者意图、辞格构成、语境含义等,深入剖析讽刺口吻在借代、移就、暗喻中的表现力,进而比较两个中译本,并籍此探讨该口吻在修辞格中的艺术再现。
Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray, a satirical classic extensively employing a rich variety of figures of speech, reveals the vanities and corruption at all levels of English society in the 19th century. The paper, through explicating the expressive force of satirical tone in metonymy, transferred epithet and metaphor by analyzing the writer' s in- tentions, mechanisms of figures of speech and contextual meanings in English-Chinese translation with three cases, aims to ex- plore the artistic representation of such tones conveyed through relevant figures of speech by comparing two Chinese versions.
