Cheongju City, South Korea is an ancient city with a history of more than 1000 years, where many historic remains, such as Sangdangsanseong （Sangdang Mountain Fortress） and Heungdeok Temple Site, are still well preserved. Yongdusaji Cheoldanggan （The Iron Flagpole of the Yongdu Temple Site） is designated Korean National Treasure number 41, and is located near Lotte Department Store in downtown Cheongju.
