Thoughts on English Translation of Rule of Law Terms in the CPC Decision on Promoting Rule of Law

本文在对比十八届四中全会《决定》官方中文本、已经出现的海外英译本以及《中国日报》网站刊载的《十八届四中全会公报全文要点》双语本等文本的基础上,探讨了"法治"、"依法治国"、"依法执政"、"依法行政"、"法治国家"、"法治政府"、"法治社会"、"依宪治国"及"依宪执政"等关键词汇的译法,意在对法治中国的宣传以及十八届四中全会《决定》的翻译与研究有所助益。

This article examines the concept＂rule of law＂,its related terms,and their English translations based on the official Chinese text of the Decision of the fourth plenum of the 18 th CPC Central Committee,its English translation version provided by the eu-asia centre,and the bilingual Highlights of Communique of the 4th Plenary Session of CPC Central Committee by the China Daily website for the purpose of facilitating the translation and research of the CPC Decision on promoting rule of law. The terms which are discussed thoroughly and translated tentatively herein include ＂rule of law＂,＂rule by law＂,＂governing the country under the law＂,＂governing under the law＂,＂administration under the law＂,＂rule of law country＂,＂rule of law government＂,＂rule of law society＂,＂governing the country under the Constitution＂,and＂governing under the Constitution＂.
