The Chongqing National Government Response to Wu Pei-fu's Death

1939年吴佩孚因牙疾逝世,社会各界表示哀敬。时值抗战,重庆国民政府对吴佩孚的去世比较重视,明令褒扬吴佩孚保持晚节,蒋介石、孔祥熙等国民党大员纷纷发唁电,并在重庆举办追悼会,代表政府喉舌的宣传部门,更是不余遗力的宣传吴佩孚的爱国情怀。重庆国民政府能够抛弃旧怨,优恤曾经的对手,不仅树立了自身的正统地位和宽容形象,而且有力地鼓舞了全民的抗敌信心,震慑了摇摆不定的人。

Wu Pei-fu died in December 4,1939,the community expressed sadness and respect. A time when war,Chongqing national government paid more attention about the death of Wu. Wu Pei-fu keep late explicitly praise festival,Chiang Kai-shek,the H. H.Kung and other high officials promptly sent a message of condolence. Chongqing national government to give Wu a posthumous honour,not only to establish their own orthodox position,but also the enemy propaganda Wu spirit,inspire confidence in the people＇s enemy.
