In the 1990s North America＇s Powder Metallurgy industry enjoyed rapid growth thanks to a dramatic increase in the quantity and weight of PM components used in US automobiles. The recession of 2008, a drive towards smaller and more fuel efficient vehicles and the globalisation of engine and gear box development has however dramatically changed the landscape for the region＇ s PM producers. Eric Boreczky reviews the recent history of PM in Noah America and considers the challenges that lie ahead in adapting to a changing automotive market.
