中英航海习语的文化管窥——从语言符号与文化符号关系的角度

The Culture Review on Chinese and English Navigation Idioms——From the Relationship of Linguistic Signs and Cultural Signs

航海文化是民族文化的重要组成部分,受主流文化模式的制约,同时也推动主流文化的发展。了解一国航海文化的捷径是分析这一国家的航海语言符号。文章以航海习语为载体,通过研究中西方地理历史造成的心理思维模式和宗教崇拜模式,比较中英两国语言中的航海习语符号特征。研究发现:由于中西文明的土地所有制不同,导致个体和群体意识主次的差异,形成中国重体验感知的形象思维,西方重科学批判的理性思维。所以汉语航海习语具有效果形象的特征,英语航海习语具有描述过程的特征。

Navigation culture plays an important role in national culture, which is controlled by the mainstream culture pattern,yet pushes the development of the mainstream culture. The short cut to know a navigation culture is to study a nation＇s navigation linguistic signs. This paper compares the Chinese and English navigation idioms, through the analysis on navigation idiomatic signs and the Chinese and Western psychological thoughts and religious worship. The research can be concluded： the different landownership of Chinese and Western civilization leads to the different primary-slave relationship of individual and group consciousness, and shapes into Chinese experiencing and image thinking and Western critical and rational thinking. Therefore, Chinese navigation idiomatic signs are more concrete and imaginative, while Western ones are more procedural and descriptive.
