The Gricean Notion of Disimplicature: An Unnecessary Notion or a Rewarding Complement?

"非隐含"是格赖斯意义理论的有机组成部分。作为取消潜在隐义的非隐含既与潜在含义概念相关也和删除概念有相似之处,其运作范围和作用对象具有自身特点,隐义取消过程遵循特定过程。重新挖掘非隐含概念、梳理它与相关概念的关系可以澄清概念,消除误解,在丰富格赖斯的意义理论图景与全面把握语境作用,为意向/含义的可取消性争议提供参照的同时,也对客观评价经典格赖斯语用学的得失具有重要参考意义。

The notion disimplicature is an integral component of Gricean meaning theory. This paper, based on a detailed comparison between disimplicature and some other similar notions, argues that, it is a process of cancellation, bearing on some similarities with, as well as some differences from, the notion of potential implicarture and the Cohenian notion of ＂deletion＂. This study points out there are constraints on its scope of cancellation, and the mechanism underlying such a cancellation process is different from the cancellability of implicature. It is conducive to rediscover the notion of disimplicature and unearth its place in the holistic picture of Grice＇s meaning analysis. Such an attempt, no doubt, will dissolve misunderstandings, fully appreciate the role of context in meaning inference, and shed light on the evaluation of classic Gricean pragmatics and on our understanding of the cancellability of implicature.
