Violence has a bond with sport, and certain sports and violence have never been separable. The present study explores chronologically the representations and features of the violence narratives of animal fighting sports in different periods, looking in particular at "bull-leaping"of Crete,"animal fighting"of ancient Rome and Spanish"bullfight". We have found that under religious piety,"bull-leaping"of Crete stood for a ritual destruction of violence, and "animal fighting"of Rome, where military force was advocated, was a performance of bloodthirsty violence, and the Spanish bullfight, however, graduated into a tragic art of violence. In the West animal fighting, violence has never been its purpose, but the means to religiosity, bloodlust performance and tragic art.
