Expressing Meaning with Symbols:On the Symbol in Paintings

艺术作品有多重表述方式,即便是面对同样的现实,由于画家的认识体验和思考不同,画中的艺术形象也会出现不同的表述方式。象征就作为绘画作品中最常用的一种表述方式,旨在以物状情,以形象表达思想,可以更深刻、更有力、更艺术地表现画家的创作意图,即运用形象语言来表达作品思想内涵的一种方式。分析象征在中西方绘画中的运用,认为西方绘画中的象征偏重于简单、直接和裸露,而中国绘画中的象征则偏重于曲折、委婉。通过绘画构图、色彩中的象征运用与分析,认为构图不仅是画家的艺术创造,更是受画面内容的支配,色彩在绘画中则有着强烈的暗示力量和象征性。

There are multiple expressions in art works.In the face of the same truth,the artistic image in paintings will be in different expression ways due to the different experiences and thoughts from different painters.While symbol,as a common expression way in artistic works,usually makes use of the objects to express emotions and express thoughts with images.With this kind of language,painters can express their creative intention more profoundly,forcefully and artfully.The symbol in paintings is a way to express work＇s idea connotation in image languages.Through analyzing the symbol in western paintings,this thesis believes that symbols in western paintings emphasizes simple,direct and exposing,but symbols in Chinese painting emphasizes twisting and tactful.Through analyzing symbols in composition of picture and color,this thesis concludes that composition of picture is not only the painter＇s artistic creation,but also dominated by picture content.Color has strong implication and symbolism in painting.
