Abbreviations are shortened forms of words or phrases. Abbreviation in Burmese is a special phenomenon involving broad domain in the modern Burmese. An analysis on its classification, word formation principles（rules of abbreviating） and features of reading and spelling has been conducted to conclude the general situation of the abbreviation in Burmese.
