平汉、陇海铁路的筑成并交汇于郑州,大大提升了郑州的交通区位优势。铁路的通达性密切了郑州与各大通商口岸的关系,商贸活动的增加推动了郑州城市工商、金融诸业的快速发展。郑州恰位于天津、汉口和上海这三大商圈的交界部,既深受各商圈的影响与控制,又因铁路之关系而对陕西、山西、甘肃等省的商业影响日渐扩大,形成了自身的腹地范围。在外部商圈的影响及其交互作用下,郑州依靠自然地理位置和交通地理位置的优势,逐渐成长为区域的中心地。

The traffic division advantage of Zhengzhou was enhanced greatly after the Pinghan railway and the Longhai railway built and crossed at Zhengzhou. The traffic conveniencely improved the relations between Zhengzhou and other main trading ports. The increasing commercial activities speeded up the development of industry,commerce and finance of Zhengzhou. Located in the juncture of three business circles-Tianjin, Hankou and Shanghai, Zhengzhou was deeply influenced and controlled by them in one hand, and in the other hand, owing to the railway,Zhengzhou developed its own hinterland by extending its commercial influence into Shaanxi,Shanxi, and Gansu provinces, etc. Under the influence and interaction from outside business circles, and depending on the advantages of geographical location and traffic location, Zhengzhou gradually became a center of the region.
