On the Value of Jin He's Wandering Poetry

晚清著名诗人金和在咸丰三年太平军攻占南京后,一直流寓各地,或主家塾,或参幕府,期间创作了大量作品,除描述太平天国围城史实及揭露清军腐败的诗歌为人所熟知外,还有许多述写流离漂泊生活的诗篇,真切反映了乱世中文人辛酸的流寓生活、痛苦的思想转变以及诗人辛苦的抗争,同时直接或间接反映当时政治军事形势,展现了乱中社会各阶层的命运与生活,具有"诗史"般的价值。

Jin He, a famous poet in the late Qing Dynasty, who wandered in several places as a tutor and a private adviser after the Taiping army occupied Nanjing in the third year of Emperor Xianfeng, had created a lot of poems. In addition to describing the well-known historical facts of Taiping＇s occupation and the corruption of the Qing army, there were many poems about the homeless which mirrored the bitterness of the intellectuals in that turbulent period, the painful shifts in thinking as well as their struggles. Meanwhile,these poems also reflected the political and military situations at that time directly or indirectly, showing us the fate and life of all classes within the society in turmoil, which has an epic value.
