慎提“大学现代化”

Mention “University Modernization” Cautiously

文学院、理学院是大学的两翼,其充分展开能让大学展翅高飞。大学之所以成其为大学,需要理论,需要哲学。教学方法、内容、目的,都需要哲学作为根底。人们期待变革,很可能觉得中国的大学实在是需要改革了,然而,自然科学领域十分需要现代化,工程技术领域尤其要现代化,人文领域却是靠积淀的。"大学现代化"的说法不当。物质生活的丰富,如果伴随着精神生活的贫乏,那会是灾难性的。没有"三古",就没有高水平大学可言,这是我们大学最珍贵的东西。作为培养人的大学,应当慎提大学现代化。

College of liberal arts and college of science are two wings of a university, and fully developed wings can let the university soar to great heights. Theories and philosophy makes the university a real one. Teaching method, content and purpose, all need philosophy as the foundation. People look forward to the change, and it is likely that Chinese universities really need to be reformed. However, natural science and engineering need modernization, the humanities need accumulation. The argument about ＂university modernization＂ is inappropriate. It would be disastrous that material life is very rich, but spiritual life is poor. Without ＂three ancient historical stages＂ , there would not have a high level university, and it is the most precious thing of university. University as a place to cultivate people, we should mention ＂university modernization＂ cautiously.
