This paper chronicles the process of preservation and renovation of the No.9 Building in Art Deco style on Shaoxing Road in Shanghai, once the site of Shanghai Kuju Opera Troupe. With a review of its history and problems facing its current situations, it proposes a holistic approach to exploring the age value and technical practicality, on the score of stylistic preservation, functional improvement, enhancement of circulation, and assessment and representation of essential architectural characteristics, etc.
