The Greatest Form Has No Shape The Case Study of Hong Kong Modern Architecture:the Central Market

建成于1939年的中环街市是香港最早的现代建筑之一,近年来成为建筑保育的焦点,其中备受争论的一个问题是如何判断它的设计价值,中环街市个案研究即在此背景下展开。研究的目的在于通过一系列的图面作业来揭示建筑在场地、功能、空间、结构、建造等方面的设计特色。而"大象无形"是作者对中环街市设计价值的总体概括。

Completed in 1939, the Central Market is one of the earliest Modern Architecture in Hong Kong. It becomes the focus of conservation and revitalization in recent years. One of the questions is how to define its design value, which provides the background of this case study. Through a series of drawing exercises, the authors intended to reveal the design characteristics of the Central Market in terms of site strategy, functional arrangement, spatial organization, structural design and construction method. All these have contributed to the central theme of ＇the greatest form has no shape＇.
