In China and around the world, governments, water authorities, communities, businesses, and industries are searching for strategies to effectively manage water supplies and address issues like flooding, drought, polution, and aging infrastructure. The cost of dealing with these problemscan threaten a city or region's long-term resilience and viability. The Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) has created a new standard for how to design and maintain outdoor built environments, especialy urban landscapes. As the world's population grows and our communities become more urbanized, it is particularly critical that we weave and utilize healthy landscapes in our urban areas as a means to not only offset development impacts and extreme weather events, but also to reconnect people with nature and the intrinsic ecosystem service benefits we gain from it.
