"Just what is it that makes today's homes so different, so appealing?" Richard Hamilton (1922-2011), the acclaimed British pop artist, asked himself this question in 1956 to name a photo collage rendering a home interior, in which a body builder and a top-less young woman were pos- ing in a living room equipped with some of the greatest technologies of the time. A maid is vacuuming the stairs, brandishing the handle at the end of a thirteen-steps-long hose. A highlighted note prays, pointing at one of the steps in the middle of the stairs, "ordinary cleaners reach only this far". For the following decades, Hamilton went deeper into this idea of analyzing each time's society by representing its interior, technology- equipped, domestic spaces, but nevertheless always including a subtle critic in his views.
