The rise of social media has influenced every walks of life as well as academic research. Recently, a special attention is paid on disaster social media. This paper adopts content analysis of several aspects of related literature in SSCI database, and presents a comprehen- sive understanding of current research. The research is an interdisciplinary study in nature and attracts various academic interests. Scholars prefer to cooperate in this field than alone. Their publications also suggest a high citation rate. A further exploration of research topic, content, theory and method are conducted. This paper concludes that an obvious research bias is discovered in the English-language based social media use. Future research may focus more on cross-culture study, and become more diverse in its nature as social media technology emerges.
