The Solitaire Mystery is a very important work created by Norwegian writer Jostein Gaard- er, who has successfully integrated philosophy with literature and thus brought about a new form of literature. In this novel, Gaarder employs such techniques as nesting and mirroring narrative struc- ture, laying bare its fictionality as well as parody and finally turns this novel into a real metafiction in which it can be clearly seen that writing is a self-conscious and self-referential process.
