翻译加工中的“垂直翻译”与“水平翻译”

Vertical translation and horizontal translation in translation processing

从认知翻译学的角度出发,利用有声思维法,探讨非专业译员汉英句子翻译的加工模式.研究发现,"垂直翻译"与"水平翻译"两种加工模式不具排他性,即某一译者可能采用单一的翻译加工模式,也可能两种模式混合使用;水平加工会导致重复性工作,其翻译效率和译文质量最低;垂直加工用时较短、思维话语量较少,译文质量略高;混合加工模式的译文质量最高.

From the perspective of Cognitive Translatology,the processing modes of non-professional translators＇ Chinese-English sentence translation were studied through Think Aloud Protocols （TAPs）. The findings are as follows：Firstly,the processing modes of vertical translation and horizontal transla-tion are not exclusive.A translator may adopt either one of the two translation processing modes,or a mix of the both.Secondly,horizontal processing may lead to repetitive work,and its translation tends to have the lowest efficiency and quality.It takes a shorter time and less Amount of Thinking Talk for verti-cal processing,and the quality of the translation is better.However,a mix of both processing modes could produce the best translation.
