摘要
在外语研究价值的思考中,常见的悖论有:外语研究的主观性与科学研究所追求的客观性;理论研究的系统有序性与现实的复杂无序性。韩礼德的语言系统的并协与互补思想包含的启示是多重的,主要有三点:整体主义语言研究观、语言的经验识解作用和科学真理相对论。
In considering the value of foreign language studies, we are often confronted with two paradoxes: the subjectivity of research on foreign languages versus the objectivity as a standard pursued by scientific research; the tidy scientific models and theories versus the vast, turbulent and untidy reality. This paper aims at interpreting Halliday ’ s notion of complementarities in language as a resolution of these two paradoxes. It is argued that this notion, by taking a holistic approach to language study, reveals the categorization of human language and questions such common views as scientific progress and the absolute Truth.
