四川凉山彝族聚居地区独有的地理特点、民风民俗孕育了富有"川腔蜀韵"的民歌,实现了音乐和文学的有机结合,在题材内容、节奏旋律、乐曲结构及伴奏乐曲等多个方面展现了独有的艺术魅力。凉山彝族原生态民歌作为非物质文化遗产,是日常生活中广大彝族群众彼此间进行交际的重要工具,也是口头文学与文艺活动的有效构成形式。凉山地区的彝族百姓对民歌的感情很深,不管是走亲访友,还是重大节日,都用民歌来表露心声,全面展现彝族的气质、精神以及品格等,是彝族传统文化的重要体现。因此,研究凉山彝族民歌艺术特征,对提升凉山彝族民歌艺术的认知水平,具有重要的现实价值。
