In order to achieve the reduction of coke, reduce costs, adjust the sensory value, and increase the filling rate and the effect of burning. A different proportion of reconstituted tobacco are usually added to the cigarette formulation[1]. Reconstituted tobacco is also known as tobacco slice. Its concept was put forward in 1857. But the real manufacturing began in the 50's in twentieth Century[2]. Reconstituted tobacco is the tobacco raw material which can not meet the conditions of cigarette processing. Such as tobacco stems, the end of the waste tobacco and some of the lower tobacco, etc, to make a thin slice of tobacco for filling material for cigarette. After adding reconstituted tobacco into cigarette, the harmful components of tar and nicotine in flue gas can be reduced significantly[3]. In the paper, the production methods, characteristics and functions of reconstituted tobacco were summarized and discussed.
