Taboo, which exists in almost every field of our daily life, is a kind of very common phenomenon. Every language in the world possesses it own taboos that play an very important part in communication and reflect the social values of its society. The paper analyzes the comparison between Chinese and English taboos aiming at reducing unhappiness or embarrassment in the course of communication, avoiding pragmatic mistake and improving people＇s consciousness of cross - cultural communication.
