The Stability of Chinese Characters and the Psychology of National Identity

汉字具有形、音、义三位一体的稳固结构,不仅体现在语言层面,也折射到民族文化和社会心理层面,甚至对民族结构、国家政治的稳定产生了重要影响。汉字的熵值是印欧系音素文字的两倍以上,承载的意义达到了概念级别,可以直接作用于人脑的意义感知区域,使读写交流达到极高的效率。语言的共性源于语言背后的思维和概念体系,语言的本位不是词或字,而是语言所要表达的思维对象——概念。

Chinese character has stable structure with trinity of form, sound and meaning. It is reflected not only in the lan- guage, but also in the national culture and social psychology, and even has an important influence on the stability of national structure and state politics. Besides, the entropy of Chinese characters is more than twice that of the Indo - European phonemic languages, and the meaning they bear reaches the conceptual level, which can directly act on the sensory area of human brain and result in high efficiency of reading and writing. The common features of language comes from the thinking and concept sys- tem it represents, the source of which is concept--the object of thinking, rather than words or characters.
