Suicide Rates in Contemporary China:A Case of Disputed Discourse

对于当代中国人的自杀率,不同的研究文献提供了非常不同的一些数字。这些数字之间的差别,既源于不同文献作者所用原始数据方面的差异,也源于这些作者对原始数据进行调整和修订时所用方法方面的差异。由于我们对于这些原始数据的"正确性"以及不同作者对原始数据进行调整和修订时所用方法的"正确性"难以作出绝对的判断,因此,对这些作者所提供的不同自杀率数字的"正确性",我们也无法作出绝对的判断。我们只能将其视为文献作者在一些特定前提条件下所完成的一些关于当代中国人自杀率的话语建构。

The research literature provides markedly varying figures for the contemporary Chinese suicide rate.The disparities in these figures come from both the differences in the original data used by different authors,and the dissimilarity in the methods these authors used when adjusting and revising the original data.Because it is hard to make absolute judgments about the accuracy of the original data and the methods in question,it is not possible to make absolute judgments about the accuracy of the different figures these authors provide for the suicide rate.We can only view them as the construction of a discourse on the contemporary Chinese suicide rate carried out by researchers under given preconditions.
